Ottawa = Summer Camp

Everytime I hang with the Wailin' Jennys it's just flat out folly. Absolute hilarity ensues and I'm spend from busting a gut everytime. This weekend was just awesome, thanks to Emma Wall and her band, Caro, Jess, Marc Charron and his longboards, Ana Muira, Hothouse Flowers, Stacey and Rob for supplying the vodka on stage, and everyone I've forgotton. It was a blast.

I Love You Ottawa- Aug 23

I woke today in Wakefield, Quebec . My bedroom overlooked the river and the sun was shining down onto the water and trees. Suddenly my 2nd hand smoke hangover didn't feel so bad. It was an exhausting and exhilirating weekend. Highlights for me were Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, H'Sao, Chris Smither, Chuck Brodskie, Joe Grass, Sue Foley, and well many more. We played main stage on Sunday night. It was super fun and slightly scary. I think there were 10,000 people there but I could be wrong. We got a wicked review in Ottawa Citizen..."Porter Fans Dig the Daisies". That was very special. Screaming girls camped out in the front row waiting for their teen hero to take the stage. Meanwhile they got all of this other wonderful music. It is my birthday today and it feels wonderful. I am going to go have a birthday latte now.

Joan Lifted Me- Aug. 19

Joan Armatrading was the final act last night. She lifted me up and made me thankful to be a musician. "Down to the Ground" made me and 1000 other people totally cry! A truly wonderful songwriter.
Kim is watching the Lemer show and I am getting ready for a Long and McQuade trip for new strings. This festival is going to be awesome! We have so many shows to play. And the other musicians are truly fab too. I hope you are all enjoying the new CD. Thanks for the reviews on the message board. We love feedback.

Ottawa Bound- Aug. 17

Off we go. La la la. I am in Vancouver waiting for my connecting flight to Edmonton. I will then have four hours to sleep and then meet my beloved band for a super early flight to Ottawa.
It has been a wonderful two weeks of farming, fishing, and relaxing. I miss the rock but also realized just how much I missed farming. My tractor skills were slightly rusty but grew sharp once I was put behind the wheel. Wow, I am not feeling the liquidy love in my writing so I am going to go and get a latte and catch me flight and try again tomorrow. See you Ottawaians tomorrow.

Smooches.

Mail OUT... Aug. 3

Today I am the mail out queen. Soon I shall fix a page to the site to show you which radio station the Painting Daisies' CD has been sent to so you can harass them for rotation. It is time for the world to hear the brilliant production of Joby Baker and the beautiful musical stylings of Painting Daisies united as one. Rrr. Please submit your reviews to the message board- both good and bad. We are confident.
Jasper Folk Fest was a blur. Much too short. I got really sick as usual right before our friday mainstage show. The snot rockets are apart of the act now. I had a lot of fun playing and realize how comfortable I am with my band mates. Our parts all work together like a well oiled machine.
I think we accidentally left Daisy's amp in Jasper so that wasn't so good. I had a fever and was limp in the back seat so I wasn't the best one to put in charge. Thanks Marcel for filming the whole weekend. I am going to try and put some clips up shortly.
Highlights for me were the Plaid Tongued Devils, Moses Mayes, and the big thunder storm on friday night. Thanks so much to all those people who bought CDs. Hope you rock hard to them in your auto of choice.
