I Hate the Greyhound
For the last 10 years, I have been vowing to never take the bus again. Well, low and behold I completed my 28th 17 hour excursion on that thing since 1994. I swear one day I will be the jetsetter I have always dreamed of being.
I am back from the hard and jagged life on the farm. My cow is older than ever and was lucky to even get up after the last delivery. I have a sneaky suspicion she will not be with us next fall.
Now it is back to the chaos. our album is looking tres sexy and is mastered and almost ready to go to print. Yes, this was supposed to be the case a month ago but we are perfectionists.
Only 25 more sleeps until we play the Sidetrack Cafe again. i hope 400 tickets sell and we have to play amongst many sweaty bodies piled up against the stage. Whoa, not enough sleep. Yes, I must admit that the Sidetrack is one of my most favorite venues to play. It's comfy. I can do all my moves without falling off the edge.
Okay, back to the grant writing.
Toodles.
Finding A Team...- March 16
Hi everyone. I am busy writing grant applications and organizing the first ever Rockergirl Camp that will be taking place in Edmonton this summer. So far the dates are from July 4-8, right in the core of our beautiful summer. I am trying to include as many girls as possible but i think I have to limit the age group to 10-14. I know I know, why just girls? Well, I only have so much time to put into this so next year will be a coed camp. The website will be up and running in a couple of weeks thanks to Yellowpencil.
Daisy and I played the Three Dead Trolls DVD Release Party last night. Almost every Edmonton musician i grew up with was there doing a troll song. Wow, they believe in a lot of words and chord changes. We did the Date Song.
The highlight of the evening was seeing Paul Bellows in a g-string and leather playing a Melodica. Where was the press? i think he has found his calling. You were great Paul!
I am putting together lists of street teams who would like to help us promote shows. I really need more people for Vancouver and Victoria. If you would like to be on the team, please give us your info via email. We could really use your help. There will be underwear and other fun stuff for a thankyou present.
No Fish For Us- March 13
Nothing bit my hook but I didn't really mind all that much. I was so happy just to be alive out in the middle of the snowy north. Mike from The Fishin' Technician took us all out onto a lake to try and snag the big one. Kim and Daisy were in there like dirty shirts. I documented. We didn't fall through the ice and much fun was had by all. No bugs either.
The show at the Elks Hall was a blast as well. Diga opened the night with Jesse James as the front man. What a great songwriter. We then did two sets of power Painting Daisies hits. Dustin played like a complete pro even though we had had only 1 rehearsal and 1 previous gig. I love his style and his passion. You can catch him playing with Adam Gregory this spring. The people of Yellowknife are gorgeous and genuine and I want to come back. Now it's time for sleep and learning the Trolls tune.
Yellowknife- March 11
Brrrrrr. Nippili Erectus. We stepped off the plane to a chilly -20 Celcius snow storm. You think we would be used to this. Nope. Now I am in my down and polypro and things are feeling better. We just played a highschool and I am in love with the kids here. SO keen...so beautiful. THanks for the lighters during the ballads. Now we are getting high on caffeine cuz it was a 5 am wakeup call this morning. THe foam is wicked but not as good as Joby's. They are treating us like total gems and tonight is fish night. Local catches at Bollocks. It is so wonderful to play a small place such as this where you are wined and dined and put in warm beds overlooking a lake and given treats here and there and taken ice fishing. In New York things were a little different!
Okay, I should be social. Tonight we are going to Diga's CD release party at the Polar Bear Bowl. I am excited. Then tomorrow we are playing the late night dance at the ELk Hall. Daisy has gone all Russian and Kim just wiped out on the ice and almost broke her wrist. So Junior GOne Wild!
'Po Girl
well hel-looo everyone.
Just a quick tip for this Friday if you're in Edmonton. Check out 'Po Girl at the Bonnie Doon Hall on March 11th. Deona is our buddy- violin extraordinaire!!
Big River City- March 4
I am still so tired from Montreal. It seemed like even if we had the chance to sleep, something would happen like a frat party, and we would be thrown in the middle of the action. I really enjoyed The Folk Alliance. My favorite show by far was The Bills. They are such talented musicians and stage performers. They wooed their crowd. Other memories of Montreal include a certain blow up cow incident, and seeing more sound women than men. Wild.
We are back in rehearsal mode. Last night was a full on review of 2 sets worth for our up and coming show in Yellowknife. Yes, we are flying to Yellowknife to rock out and to go ice fishing. Daisy thinks it will be quite challenging for her stop talking long enough for a fish to come by. I am sure that we will be educated and coached enough to at least get a bite. Kim is afraid of the horseflies. We calmed her worries by reminding her that it is -20 there right now. Relax.
